Before the ceiling closes: 7 things to agree with your contractor for a home cinema room

The cheapest moment to get a home cinema right is before the ceiling closes. After that, almost every fix means opening walls. Take this list to your next meeting with your contractor or interior designer.

1. The room and the riser

• Choose the room for the cinema, not just the room that's left over. Avoid sharing a wall or floor with a bedroom if you can.
• Windows let light and sound in. Plan to close them or treat them before the walls are finished.
• If you want two rows, the back row sits on a raised platform. Check there's still about 2.1–2.2 m of headroom above it.

2. The front wall: screen and speakers

• Decide the screen size now, so the wall, the backing and the seating distance are built for it.
• If the speakers go behind an acoustically transparent screen, the front wall needs extra depth. Agree it before the drywall goes up.
• Ask for solid backing (wood or steel) wherever a screen, a projector or a speaker will hang.

3. Conduits, not just cables

• Run empty conduits with pull strings, not only cables. Formats change, and conduits let you upgrade without opening walls.
• You need them to: the projector position, every speaker position (including the ceiling speakers for Dolby Atmos), the subwoofers, the screen, and back to the equipment cabinet.
• Add one spare conduit to the cabinet. It's the cheapest thing on this list.

4. Power where the cinema needs it

• A dedicated circuit for the equipment cabinet, and power at the projector position.
• Power at every recliner, routed through the riser before it's closed.
• Power at the subwoofer positions, so there are no cables across the floor.

5. Air conditioning you can't hear

• Most cinema rooms that "leak" sound do it through the air conditioning. On one tower project, the room's air return was open to the building corridor: a straight path for film sound out and corridor noise in. We caught it on the drawings and fixed it before the ceiling closed.
• Ask for low air speed at the grilles, bends or lined boxes behind them, and the fan-coil unit outside the room or isolated from it.
• Keep cold supply air away from the screen and front wall.

6. Keeping the sound in

• A solid-core door with seals all round. A hollow door undoes everything else.
• Seal every opening in the walls and ceiling: back boxes, downlights and pipe penetrations are where sound escapes.
• If a bedroom is above or beside the room, talk about the ceiling and wall build-up now. It can't be added later without opening up the room.

7. Lighting, network and the equipment cabinet

• Dimmable lighting in zones (ceiling, steps, cove), with no light falling on the screen wall.
• A wired network point at the equipment cabinet and the projector. Don't rely on Wi-Fi for 4K streaming.
• Decide where the equipment cabinet goes (in the room or next to it), and make sure it's ventilated and reachable for service.

أرخص وقت لتنفيذ السينما المنزلية بشكل صحيح هو قبل إغلاق السقف. بعد ذلك، يعني أي إصلاح تقريباً فتح الجدران. خذ هذه القائمة إلى اجتماعك القادم مع المقاول أو مصمم الديكور.

1. الغرفة والمنصّة المرتفعة

• اختر الغرفة المناسبة للسينما، لا الغرفة المتبقية فقط. وتجنّب قدر الإمكان أن تشارك جداراً أو أرضيةً مع غرفة نوم.
• النوافذ تُدخل الضوء والصوت. خطّط لإغلاقها أو معالجتها قبل إنهاء الجدران.
• إذا أردت صفّين من المقاعد، فالصف الخلفي يكون على منصّة مرتفعة. تأكد أن الارتفاع فوقها لا يقل عن نحو 2.1 إلى 2.2 متر.

2. الجدار الأمامي: الشاشة والسماعات

• حدّد مقاس الشاشة الآن، ليُبنى الجدار والتدعيم ومسافة الجلوس على أساسه.
• إذا كانت السماعات خلف شاشة تمرّر الصوت، فالجدار الأمامي يحتاج عمقاً إضافياً. اتفقوا عليه قبل تركيب الجبس.
• اطلب تدعيماً صلباً (خشب أو حديد) في كل مكان ستُثبَّت عليه شاشة أو جهاز عرض أو سماعة.

3. مواسير فارغة، لا أسلاك فقط

• مدّوا مواسير فارغة مع حبل سحب، وليس أسلاكاً فقط. التقنيات تتغير، والمواسير تتيح لك التحديث دون فتح الجدران.
• تحتاجها إلى: موقع جهاز العرض، وكل موقع سماعة (بما فيها سماعات السقف لـ Dolby Atmos)، وسماعات الصوت الجهير، والشاشة، والعودة إلى خزانة الأجهزة.
• أضف ماسورة احتياطية واحدة إلى الخزانة، فهي أرخص بند في هذه القائمة.

4. الكهرباء حيث تحتاجها السينما

• دائرة كهربائية مخصّصة لخزانة الأجهزة، وكهرباء عند موقع جهاز العرض.
• كهرباء لكل مقعد كهربائي، تُمدّ داخل المنصّة قبل إغلاقها.
• كهرباء عند مواقع سماعات الصوت الجهير، حتى لا تمرّ أسلاك على الأرض.

5. تكييف لا تسمعه

• معظم غرف السينما التي "يتسرّب" منها الصوت، يتسرّب عبر التكييف. في أحد مشاريع الأبراج، كان مسار سحب الهواء من الغرفة مفتوحاً على ممر المبنى: طريق مباشر لخروج صوت الفيلم ودخول ضجيج الممر. اكتشفنا ذلك في المخططات وعالجناه قبل إغلاق السقف.
• اطلب سرعة هواء منخفضة عند فتحات التكييف، وانحناءات أو صناديق مبطّنة خلفها، ووحدة التكييف خارج الغرفة أو معزولة عنها.
• أبعِد هواء التكييف البارد عن الشاشة والجدار الأمامي.

6. إبقاء الصوت داخل الغرفة

• باب مصمت بإحكام عازل من كل الجهات. الباب المجوّف يُفسد كل ما سواه.
• أحكِم إغلاق كل فتحة في الجدران والسقف: علب الكهرباء والإنارة المدفونة وفتحات الأنابيب هي حيث يتسرّب الصوت.
• إذا كانت فوق الغرفة أو بجانبها غرفة نوم، فناقشوا طبقات السقف والجدران الآن، إذ لا يمكن إضافتها لاحقاً دون فتح الغرفة.

7. الإنارة والشبكة وخزانة الأجهزة

• إنارة قابلة للتعتيم على مناطق (السقف، الدرجات، الإنارة المخفية)، دون أي ضوء يسقط على جدار الشاشة.
• نقطة شبكة سلكية عند خزانة الأجهزة وجهاز العرض. لا تعتمد على الواي فاي لبثّ 4K.
• حدّد مكان خزانة الأجهزة (داخل الغرفة أو بجانبها)، وتأكد أنها جيدة التهوية وسهلة الوصول للصيانة.
